Mini Vee Race Boat Plans

The Deck

I started the deck with the bow. This piece extends aft two to three inches beyond bulkhead #1, and is notched out for the coaming.

The AC plywood I used on the original Mini Vee bent easily over the foredeck. However, for a more recent Mini Vee I used luan plywood, which proved to be much stiffer. To ease the bend at the extreme bow, I cut a series of kerfs in the underside of the decking, on half-inch centers and to a depth of half the plywood thickness.

In the photo, about half the job is done.

The remainder of the deck is butt joined to the bow piece with a butt block about six inches wide. No fiberglass is required on the upper side of the seam.
