Raceboat Cockpit

Interior Lay-up

Carefully pull the cockpit away from the form such that the screw heads tear away from the foam. Then lift the cockpit free.

A simple jig holds the cockpit to its proper width.

Start with a layer of fiberglass the entire length.

Next a layer of carbon, and finally Kevlar.

The bulkhead behind the seat is secured with fiberglass tape. Mine is made from 1/4" plywood.

If you are making the lower sided version of the cockpit, the exact location of this bulkhead will likely vary from these plans. Determine this location by studying your plans, or your boat. Or wait until you are actually fitting the cockpit to your boat to determine the proper location.

I cut some openings in my bulkhead, hoping to provide some airflow. I can't tell you if it helps at all, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
